North Head Field Recordings

Me and my group set out to record sounds in and around the caves and tunnels at North Head. At first we recorded already existing sounds, but after having fun with the echos of our footsteps, squeak of doors, etc. we became more interested in recording sounds that we could created in the cave, by playing with objects present in the caves. While we were trying to record our produced sound, people touring the caves were “ruining” our recordings, as we saw it at the time. Later we realised the beauty of the stark contrast between the eery, ominous atmosphere of the cave sounds, and the cheerful sounds created by its visitors. We decided to enhance this contrast by going home to record very warm, homely sounds. Our plan is to combine these sounds to contrast between eery and cheerful sounds.
